Yes, writing challenge time. I am working on a story. I have started it and made some decent progress. I even have a solid idea and know where it is going. It is going to be tragic and angsty. Oh joy. :P

I am going away this week so I want to get a good start on the story so I can get it done on time. So putting a little bit of pressure on myself.

Here is the word meter.

Tolkien Femslash week is doing a challenge which invites you to make prompts from a list of Sappho quotations (or fragments).
The current SWG challenge suggests combining the song prompts with the Femslash challenge, if it works for you.

I like Sappho so I thought this  was a lovely idea. I made up some prompts, in case anyone is interested, i.e. I picked quotations and added a f/f pairing from the Legendarium that came to mind.(I'm afraid some of the more popular pairings are not included.)

They are posted to Tumblr but I'll also copy them in below.

SWG Challenge New Directions

Below is the list of stories submitted for the New Directions challenge. Please remember that while "late" entries do not receive a stamp, they are more than welcome on the archive, so if you're still working on this challenge--or haven't started it yet but want to--please carry on! Links on the list below go to the Table of Contents, where you can find author's notes and more information about the story. If you enjoy a story, please consider commenting and letting the author know.

Annael's Reunion by Kaylee Arafinwiel. After far too long, Annael of the Grey-elves reunites with one he thought lost.

For Those Who Hold a Silmaril In Their Hands by LadyBrooke. Erellont is young when Finrod leaves, and his uncle goes with him.

Legolas of Gondolin by Silver Trails. This is an introduction to my view of Legolas of Gondolin.

The Manly-Hearted Woman by oshun. This is a story of Haleth.

New Directions by hennethgalad. the friends of Eärendil, returning from Valinor
+ mystery guest...

Of Huor of the House of Hador by StarSpray. Six moments in the life of Huor son of Galdor.

Of Voronwe's Parents by Himring. Two vignettes featuring the parents of Voronwe of Gondolin.

A Second Chance by Grundy. "She whom he had loved was Amárië of the Vanyar, and she was not permitted to go with him into exile."

The Snakes and the Flowers by Lyra. A young Vanyarin poet makes some clever observations, the relevance of which only grows apparent in good time.

Sunset to Sunrise by Tyelca. A quiet night at home for Arien, Bearer of the Sun.

If you have not seen our current challenge, Just an Old-Fashioned Love Song, check it out! Fanworks for this one are due by 11 August 2017 to be eligible for a stamp.

As I am in the midst of the Mereth Aderthad, stamps will be later than usual this month. I will try to have them updated by the middle of next week. If there are any drastic changes to that timeline, I will let everyone know.

Need to update more often. Ummmm.

June SWG challenge fic is not yet finished but will be eventually. Have a strong urge to pick a song from the July/August challenge too, but fortunately I can't settle on just one. Life is very upside down and upsetting right now, but I will still get the new chapter of Flamingo to Red in a day or two -- yes I've been saying that for a while but I mean it now, cannot expect aspects of life to settle down just because I need a calm mind for writing. Need to get over that. Write out the angst the way I used to as a teenager (I can vaguely remember such a stage in my life, a long, long time ago --- and no, do not want those days back, thanks).

It's finally winter. Snow on the ground in Sutherland, rumours of a sprinkling of snow on the top of Table Mountain itself, snow on surrounding mountains. So yes, it's cold and we are Africa's children so we are huddled around our heaters, whimpering.

I swapped out my DW icons, I'll need to do that regularly. 15 slots, good grief. They don't let you buy more slots unless you have a paid account, which is kind of self defeating. Certainly not getting a paid account at this point. They cost more than LJ and I'm working with an exchange rate of $1 costing around R13, which makes $35 more than I'd be willing to pay for good antivirus protection.

My space bar is still jamming. The laptop is under warranty, which means I can't take it anywhere else, but they won't fix it under warranty as they'll call it wear and tear, so they'll come pick it up, take it away, fix it when they're good and ready and charge whatever they feel like on the day. I keep hoping one day I'll switch on and find it's just miraculously fixed itself. Might need to get my old laptop back from M though, purely to write with. It has a key missing but that's fine, I can type on it anyhow.

Grandmother section of the post under the cut --- grandchild dealing with A Situation. It was either this or one of the pictures where she looks like she's planning world domination - creepily focused eyes, dead serious face.

July 2017 SWG Challenge Just an Old-Fashioned Love SongDuring the month of July, fanworks creators around the world celebrate love. July has been reserved for honoring both the femslash and slash genres. Half of the world is sultry with summer heat, and half of the world seeks nearness and warmth to banish winter's chill.

For this month's challenge, you will use a popular love song as a prompt to inspire a fanwork about romantic or sexual love. You will choose your own prompt from the list of love songs below. More than one participant may choose the same song, and you may use any aspect of the song--the title, all or part of the lyrics, the mood or style of the music, or the music video--or any combination!--to inspire your response. You don't need to claim a prompt or comment or do anything but create your fanwork! Any pairing or poly relationship is acceptable for the challenge.

Our friends at Tolkien Femslash Week will be hosting their challenge as well, and as always, feel free to combine our challenge with your work for their challenge. If you do, please make a note in the summary or story notes so that we can award stamps accordingly.

Since I am a day late in posting the challenge, the due date for stamps will be 11 August 2017.. Late stories are always welcome but will not receive a stamp.

If you're new to our challenges, check out the full challenge guidelines here.
