I just picked this up from a friend on the Lizards. Here's some info on the casting of Bilbo and the dwarves. They are quite a handsome lot for dwarves.  Kili is gorgeous.  Although I daresay, for me personally, a long scraggly beard never enhances a man's appearance.  Oh, I smell RPS already in the making.  LOL.

The one that is causing me to swoon is Bill Nighy as Smaug's voice.  Anyone of you who have read Dragon Fever know I have a soft spot for the dragon.  I think Bill will be wonderful.  Here are his "do you fear death-ah" lines in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies where he played Davy Jones.

Oh yes, RPS stands for real person slash and there was a lot of it involving LOTR actors.
I loved Bill's Davy Jones character. Hard to be that charismatic under all the computer-generated makeup.

That seems to be the million dollar question.

Richard Armitage as Thorin! O_O The last series I saw him in was Strike Back where he was an under-the-radar SAS soldier. So that's a huge leap!

I love him though - and I am not a Dwarf-lover, I wonder how he'll look with a long beard. I agree about Kili. :)

His pic looks way too gorgeous for a dwarf. It looks like a very interesting cast.

Yes it does - and did you see the actor they mentioned for Thranduil? (Only mentioned, so that means not definite, but his is the only name I've seen as a real contender) he's dark, but so was Orlando Bloom. Aidan Turner. I don't know who he is, but I think, wow, yes, he would do!

Now I'm confused. In the piece I read Aidan Turner was cast as Kili and this is not his pic. Who is this guy? He is lovely and I'd buy him as Thranduil with a nice blond wig. He's already got the ears. LOL

Never mind. It looks like two different actors both with last name Turner and with their unusual first names spelled slightly differently. Aidan and Aiden. Oh that will be confusing that will.

I found another pic of Aiden. OMFG YES!! Let's pray this is true.

Well this is what it said on that TORN page:

Aiden Turner is in contention for the Elf King.

- and I googled Aiden Turner, both images and on google, and this is who came up. So maybe there was some confusion with TORN, but I would say he makes a better Thranduil than a Dwarf. :D

Edit - oh yes, you and I both found that at the same time, two actors, same name, apart from the spelling.

Aidan Turner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aidan_Turner) (spelled with an a, not an e - that's the one who is playing Kili, I think?

O_O @ picture.

PLEASE - please give us this fanservice, please!!

So agree with you on Kili and men with beards in general. I doubt we'll recognize any of these guys in costume! I was pleasantly surprised to see Bilbo not as a pretty 20-something. He looks perfect :)

Smaug's voice... not sure what to think. There's potential in these Davy Jones clips, but something that disturbs me as well. His track record is impressive, though, so no worries really.

But what about Thranduil? They can't leave him out altogher, can they? Hm... there is still a need for the handsome 20-something... and romance, I fear. Hm.

I don't know martin freeman at all, but reading his background, he sounds great.
And right, what about Thranduil? Russandol found a rumor that it would be a guy named Michael Fassbender. See below.

Rumours of Michael Fassbender for Thranduil?

How did you find that rumor? I actually googled Thranduil, casting, the hobbit and variations thereof the other day and didn't see anything. This gent looks suitably well chiseled, but not near gorgeous enough.

Oh dear, I followed links a few days ago from a piece of news where Michael Fassbender was mentioned as one of the people who might have a role. One of them led to some forum where someone speculated as to him being Thranduil, as we do here. No first hand breaking news, pure rumourware, I'm afraid! Not gorgeous enough for me either, but make up, pointy ears and a wig might make all the difference here!

Oh, I am excited to think Bill might be voicing Smaug. I love Smaug. I have a dragon thing in general. And I absolutely love Bill Nighy, so this would be great! I heard them say that they are afraid he will sound too recognizable, but I think Bill has a great character actor voice. I hope they do it.

I look forward to the shit-tons of RPS that will becoming our way!
